Food aplenty... and shopping, too!
Armstrong Mills at Shepshed might not look as plush a department store from the outside as, say, Marks & Spencer’s – but the food was hot, and it was plentiful, and it was cooked so well I’d be happy to go back there anytime!
And then, when lunch was over, along with everyone else I rediscovered the joys of shopping in a well-stocked store with friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable staff. The range of goods is impressive, including a most charming collection of antiques and collectables and much more; the quality is excellent;, and the prices very affordable. A good day was had by all!
Armstrong Mills Department Store started off as the Tomlinson and Riley Shoe Factory. It was later sold to Mr Ken Farmer, and it became a factory making cardigans and jumpers: the brand name was Simbawear, named for the owner’ s Siamese cat, Simba. Later it was sold to a Mr Morris Clayton who renamed it Charterouse, and then later sold it on to Armstrong Mills.
